Training & Events Lead – Run a company within the company

Most job ads ask you to fill a role. 

This one asks you to run a business. 

At Tesena, Training & Events works like a company within the company. It has its own products, customers, budget and P&L. 

We're looking for someone entrepreneurial to take ownership of it, decide where it should go next, and make it grow. 

You'll have the freedom of running a business, with the brand, people and infrastructure of Tesena behind you. 

And you won't be doing it alone. As part of the package, you'll get personal mentoring from Marcel Veselka, co-founder and former CEO of Tesena, and today founder and CEO of Woopee.io. Marcel has built businesses from scratch and knows first-hand what it takes to make them grow. You'll have him in your corner. 

What you'll own 

You'll be responsible for the commercial success of Tesena's Training & Events business. 

That includes: 

• Training portfolio: Develop our existing courses and create new ones based on what the market actually needs. Decide what to launch, improve, repackage or retire. 
• Sales & growth: Find new customers and new ways to reach them. Generate demand, talk to clients, sell trainings and partnerships, experiment with channels and figure out what works. 
• Webinars and meetups: Own the calendar, topics, speakers and audience - and make sure they contribute to the wider business. 
• Tesena Fest: Take ownership of our flagship conference and make every edition stronger in quality, reach and business impact. 
• The numbers: Own the revenue, costs and profitability of the business. 
• Marketing: Build the marketing engine for Training & Events. Right now marketing is shared across all of Tesena. We want Training & Events to have its own. You'll help us decide how to set it up: an agency, a dedicated marketer, running it yourself, or a mix. Then you'll make it work. 

Training & Events matters to us for two reasons. 

First, it needs to be a profitable business in its own. 

Second, it creates relationships and opens doors for Tesena's consulting and delivery business. 

The training market is changing. Staying relevant is harder than it used to be. 

We see that as an opportunity, and we're looking for someone who does too. 

What you'll start with 

You're not starting from zero. 

You'll inherit: 

• An established portfolio of trainings 
• An experienced group of trainers 
• An existing customer and community base 
• A budget 
• The Tesena brand and client network 
• Tesena Fest, our established flagship conference 
• Marketing supportSupport from Tesena's Marketing Manager while dedicated Training & Events marketing is being set up 
• Invoicing, finance and back-office support 

In other words, you get much of the freedom of running your own business without having to build the company around it. 

You'll have a lot of autonomy in deciding how to move the business forward, within Tesena's overall strategy and the targets we agree together. 

What success looks like after a year 

A year from now, we'll consider this successful if Training & Events is a stronger business than the one you inherited. 

Revenue is growing. Profit is growing. 

You've launched new things that worked, stopped or changed things that didn't, and found new ways of acquiring customers. 

The training portfolio is stronger and more relevant. 

Tesena Fest has grown in quality, reach and business impact. 

And Training & Events is creating relationships that lead to opportunities for the rest of Tesena. 

We'll agree the specific targets together. 

You'll own how we get there. 

Who we're looking for 

We care much more about mindset and track record than about your current job title. 

You might be: 

• Someone who has built or led a training, education, conference or community business 
• A salesperson or marketer who knows how to turn products into revenue and wants much more ownership 
• Someone who has run their own business - or has always wanted to 
• An entrepreneur who would enjoy building something with an established company behind them 

What matters most is that: 

• You think like an owner. You care about customers, revenue, profit and results. 
• You're commercially minded. Ideally, you understand how to sell trainings, courses or events - because selling education is a specific craft. 
• You're comfortable making decisions. You won't wait for someone to tell you what to do next. 
• You experiment. We don't expect every idea to work. We do expect you to test ideas, learn from the numbers and change course when something isn't working. 
• You can build relationships and sell comfortably in Czech and English. 

Experience in software testing, Quality Engineering or IT is useful, but it's not a requirement. We have plenty of domain expertise around you. 

We're looking for someone who can build the business. 

How we work 

This is a full-time commitment, but it's not a 9-to-5 job. 

We don't count hours. We care about what you deliver. 

You'll have significant freedom over how you organize your work and where you focus your energy. 

We're open to either an employment contract or a freelance arrangement, depending on what works best for both sides. 

What's in it for you 

We want your compensation to reflect the way the role works. 

You'll get: 

• A fixed monthly base 50 000 - 65 000 per month or 3 400 - 4 300 MD + bonuses
• Meaningful performance-based upside linked directly to the gross net  profit you generate 
• A performance-based bonus of up to CZK 600,000 per year, linked directly to the results you deliver and the targets we agree together 
• The bonus will be primarily driven by the net profit generated by the Training & Events business, so the more successfully you grow the business, the more you benefit from that growth 

We'll design the exact structure together with the final candidate. 

We'll open the books, show you the numbers behind the business and the opportunity, and agree on a model that works for both sides. 

If you grow the business, you should benefit from that growth too.
