The brave new world of QA and testing

Nowadays we witness dramatic changes in technological advancements as the world is becoming fully digitalized. The function of Quality Assurance (QA) and Testing has evolved considerably over the last few years. We have embraced Agile to better understand and fulfill customers’ needs and DevOps as a response to the demand for shorter time-to-market. In order to implement agile practices effectively, we have to widely deploy Test Automation as it is an essential element of the Testing process in Agile.

According to the World Quality Report 2018 -19 there are 6 key trends that will have an enormous impact on how QA and testing evolve over the next 2 to 3 years.
One of them is the growth of Microservices and the API economy. It implies breaking down bigger applications into smaller, easier manageable pieces.
Adoption of the Internet of Things (IoT) has been on the rise across many industries and its global usage increased from 83 % in the last year to 97 % today with a focus on Automotive sector.

According to this year’s survey, as many as 73 % of all applications are based in the Cloud. This trend is developing concurrently with the growth of IoT, which raises concerns over data privacy and Cybersecurity.

One of the hottest technological trends of today is Blockchain. Although it was first put in use in Financial Services industry for cryptocurrencies, nowadays many other industries are implementing use cases aimed at leveraging this technology. When asked about plans for blockchain, 66 % of respondents said they were already using it or planning to do so in the upcoming year.

The domain of Intelligent Automation and optimization is where Artificial Intelligence is playing a key role in QA with 45 % of respondents stating that they use AI for intelligent automation, 36 % for predictive analytics and 35 % for descriptive analytics and self-learning cognitive platforms.

Let’s explore together this world full of new technologies and let’s find out how to handle them to make the world of QA better.
